Study Abroad Plus Internship
UWS offers Study Abroad students the opportunity to undertake an unpaid internship program as part of their Study Abroad program. The internship, which is fully supervised by UWS academic staff, offers students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience.

Greater Western Sydney is recognized as Australia’s third largest regional economy. As the base of operations for 30% of the leading companies in Australia it offers a diverse range of placement opportunities for students.

To ensure a balance between relevant industry experience and academic focus, our internship students are supervised by UWS academics and placements are linked to students Study Abroad studies.

UWS also provides a range of support services to students prior to, and for the duration of, their internship to ensure that they are able to achieve the most from their placement. Some of the support services available to internship students include an orientation and professional development program, a pre-internship training workshop in Project Planning and Business Communication, monthly contact with a UWS Cooperative Programs representative, Academic supervision, and participation in an award ceremony at the completion of the internship.

Academic Information

The internship is equivalent to 10 UWS credit points (one standard unit of study) and requires approximately 210 hours in the work placement. In conjunction with the internship, students will study two or three academic units at UWS which is expected to make up a full-time study load.

NB: A standard full-time study load for one session at UWS is 40 UWS credit points, although students are eligible to study a minimum of 30 credit points. Due to the workload associated with the internship it is recommended students study 2 units alongside their internship. It is anticipated that students transfer their internship experience to their home degree for credit.
